these days the blog is pretty much dead. i have too many little side projects going and even tried starting another blog about philosophy but got again distracted. ah well. here's a few quick updates:

I got engaged! but you probably already knew that. :)

up until yesterday we were going to get married in thailand but am now thinking about australia..a winery wedding anyone? i'll keep you posted on that one. one of the little side projects i've started is web design and i've been half-heartedly trying to make a website from scratch but it's much much harder than i thought, so i might have to go with a tweaked wordpress template again.

i got new jobs! working for a variety of unis in melbourne, doing what i do best (on a pro level anyway).

i made a company! celtsmelbourne.com.au doing some freelance tutoring. being your own boss is really quite fun.

i had visitors! mirdad, mehlkelm and thom wicki all came to visit (but not together). it's been really nice to have some fellow old-worldlers coming over and saying hi.

that's probably the biggest ones really. apart from all that, i've been trying to get my music making back up. one purchase that as facilitated this recent surge is my mpd32. so now i've been trying to pen some songs, mesing around with reason again, analysing songs of artists i like (the shins, the weakerthans, etc) and reading a lot about gear that would be nice to have. i found out that there's a condition called G.A.S. or Gear Acquisition Syndrome and i think i may be a sufferer in recovery. back when i was a student, i would spend all my money on guitars, synths, recording gear and what not. but these days it's pretty well controlled, merged finances and all, so that's good. i did just get a copy of logic express off ebay, though, apple's recording software which is supposed to be really good. getting shipped from the uk and should be here in about a week i hope, so hopefully i'll be able to tear myself away from the internet and get some music done.

well, that's pretty much it for now. hopefully, it will be less than 8 months until the next post. cheers

well, it had to come to this: i'm in america! seattle, washington. at the natividad's and everything is great!! i'm being entertained, fed and chauffeured around like a star. the economy is going to shits but the sun is shining so it's all ok :) the cars are gargantuan petrol-gurgling monsters, there are 500 TV channels and the people all talk with these thick accents that it really feels like being in a movie, cliches aside. i like it more than i thought. it's very green, people are nice..not bad really. i arrived on sunday and on tuesday we already went to canada for a short trip. victoria, BC. very nice, canada is cool (if they just stopped plastering maple leaves everywhere! they never stop reminding you which country you're in). more soon@

ah, i wish i had more to put here. well, a few things should be said i guess.

1. i'm done! uni is over!! i'm still technically enrolled, as i won't officially graduate until october. this is great new, as it enabled me to buy a student fare ticket to the states. that's right, i'm gonna say hi to uncle sam and see what the fuss is about. one of wr's friends is getting married so we'll be poppin' over. and of course i get to meet the parents! i'm a little nervous about that but if they're anything like the relos inthe philippines i;m in for a treat (and will probably put on another 5kg). speaking of puttin on weight: this new job of mine has turned me into a blob. i;m getting lifts from door to door, cos my coworker keith lives just around the corner and has a car. hence, i'm not getting any exercise from walking to the station.
enter exercise bike.
that's right. next to me majestically stands a bike, like the statue of a skinny cow, with horns pointing to the sky (or ceiling). it's weird. i always used to think of stationary exercise machines as hamster wheels. we laugh at those silly rodents from deriving entertainment in such a trivial way and the mount a stationary wire donkey and pedal away. such is life.

apart from that i'm spending way too much time putting together another piece in my crown of geekiness. i'm building my own computer, fro scratch. (well, i;m buying the parts, not soldering them myself, but still. i'm quite excited about it.

wr is working relatively steadily now and we're now on a double income!! woohoo :) life is dandy and all is well. love to you all.

PS: it appears that my favourite chef is coming to australia in september. hail the mighty mirdad and his miraculous skillet! hail!!

just quickly.
haven't written anything in 2 months..eek!!
i just finished the 2nd-last essay for my degree, about bilingual education in america. what a minefield. on the bright side, my master's will be pretty much over in 2 weeks! now this is hard to believe..i'm stoked.

just wanted to let y'all know that my contract got extended for a bit..till the 21st of november. by then i'll be a hippie-killin', gun-totin' conservative, saluting the queen's piture at the officer's mess on base and a general fuckwit. bear with me. love and peace

whoa! only 3 days to go till melbourne! we don't have a place yet, so we'll be doing a lot of running around. we're probably gonna get a small apartment on the city fringe, somewhere on the train line to laverton, my future place d'emploi. weeeeee!

on a side note:
yesterday i was contemplating the appeal of golf, a sport that is very popular among men but not so much with women, which is weird, if you think about it. i mean, rugby isn't very popular with the ladies for obvious reasons: it's brutally aggressive, dirty and depends almost solely on physical strength and strategic manoeuvres; not very classically feminine qualities (which probably makes rugby players sexy in a very primordial way).

golf, on the other hand, is usually played in nice weather, in lovely, neat park surroundings. players wear clean, neat clothes, generally have to behave well (there are even rules!), don't shout. you need to/should be/appear rich and sophisticated. no particular physical strength is necessary, the power comes from the hip swing. concentration is much more valuable than strategy. and you get to walk at least 5 kms per game, work on those thighs and bum! but i only know about 2 women who enjoy golf, which is very few since most men i know (turbo golf included;) like hitting the greens at least somewhat.

so what IS up with that? and then it dawned on me. what are we doing but swinging our great long clubs with knobbly bits at the end from the hip in order to get small white things in a hole that's surrounded by plush, soft grass? a bit of healthy competition makes that sweet hole even more alluring and we can't wait to topple our opponents to get there in as few steps as possible (style points!). it's, yet again, all about sex.

i got a job!
it's another teaching job, in australia this time...for the air force! i think i'll be teaching officers from all over the world, apparently (except europe) and should be getting the highest pay i've ever gotten..woohoo! it's at a training center on a RAAF base near melbourne (about 20kms out) and will start on the 12th..in 2 weeks! it's only for 6 months. i've already booked a ticket down for me and wr and we're looking at rental listings every day. we're gonna move in together, a first for me. i have absolutely no worries about it, though. we're both very excited! wish us luck
