feeling christmassy.we had 30 cms of pure white snow on sunday and now the country is covered in a serene, thick white blanket. this makes me feel more festive than 40 degrees in the shade, which is the norm for yule in australia, where even $1-santa hats can't help conveying that wintery nice feelin of what once used to be my favourite festivity.
it's nice here, i like japan snowed in, especially since i finally got a winter coat..it helps. kudos here to the insane high school girl who still strut around proudly in their miniskirts. how they do it is beyond me as i'm shaking just looking at them. i've also been informed that the girls shorten their skirts themselves or give them to a tailor..so my old conception of pedophiles havind designed those uniforms should at least partly be revised.
but still...jeez! i mean, it's minus 5 or something and they're riding bikes in miniskirts, usually without stockings, let alone pants underneath..i've seen like 3 girls wearing tracky daks (training suit pants for those who're wondering) under the mini, some more or less or sensible ones at least wear leg warmers but the vast majority just suffers for vanity. oh well..i'll keep you updated..let's see if they can keep it up till february.
i didn't make it to kyoto due to financial shortages, (plus i missed the leaves change, s supposedly simply awesome sight in kyoto, when the japanese maple turns all shades from green, to yellow, orange and blood red)...if you think 3 grand is a lot of money in japan think again..texas-ben and i agreed that money is like sand that runs through your fingers here. it's crazy! so i and 2 new buddies (kiwi-benn and yankeE-tim, as opposed to tim yanke) have decided to seek out the japanese alps for a couple of days to endanger nagano's slopes. whether i'll try snowboarding for the 4th unsuccessful time or hit the skis after a 8.5 break is still up in the air and we shall see...
then it's some crazy party on nye, what exactly is similarly undecided but i'm sure it'll be expensive and fun.
and then it's off to tokyo for a few days..very excited as this will be an absolute first for me. sydney is still the biggest city i've set foot in, so i'll see what the 30million+ of the tokyo/yokohama/kawasaki conglomerate will do to my psyche. most of my students only have pity left for me when i tell them with widened eyes moistened with excitement that i'll be goin to infamous tokyo but some actully assured me i'll have a great (if expensive) time there. shinjuku, roppongi, shibuya..i'm a-comin!!
