jeez! is swissland as cold as here? we had our first snow in nagoya las night and i caught a cold. i guess paintball wasn't the smartest idea ever healthwise but god it was fun! those snooty critics of mine who'd like to launch into a tirade against me escaping the army and being pacifist and all may quieten down. it was fantastic. for those of you who are not familiar wih paintball/skirmish: in our case 45 grown adults run around in camouflage gear in a forest in the mountains of japan armed with scary masks and guns that fire small balls filled with paint tha whizz through the air with 400 km/h and tend to hurt a bit if they happen to hit an exposed area of flesh..other than that, completely harmless. it was so cold that our masks fogged up all the time and general visibility was so low that even without a mask it was difficult o make out friend from foe. even shot our medic once, the poor thing (soz, yumi!) it was a great shot though! so yeah, you can't see shit but your aware of the fact that very close to you there are 40 people who want to cover you in fast-flying paint. so basically you and up either crouching or lying in the mud, behind logs and fillin the woods with little blobs of watersoluble, non-toxic paint. if you're hit you had to put a white towel on your head and wait for your medic to heal you (wipe your paint off and count to thirty) then the fun could continue..plus about 30 oher complicated rules oo long and too boring to list here, but the moral of the story is: if you have a chance to go, do it! just forget about all you notions of stupid lil' boys stuff, war glorification etc and enjoy the thrill.
next week i might actually go to kyoto with texas ben and a 65yo student of his. it is still autumn and although the leaves are starting to fall, there should still be plenty of splendid redness and hopefully a myriad of other colours dying the city in a mystical coat of radiant lushness. so much for the dreams. whether it actually works out and looks good you should find out soon. teik kaer
