more geekery...
i'm sticking the longest finger in Bill Gates' direction. For almost 2 weeks, I've been running Linux on my computer, as well as windows...although i've hardly been using it.
More specifically, i'm running
ubuntu...a completely free operating system, that comes with a myriad of free programs, including a
complete office suite and an excellent
imaging program and literally hundreds more. it's all open source, which means that people from all around have been working on it and anyone can use it. i'm using it as a dual-boot, which means that when i turn on the old lappy, it gives me a choice of which OS i want to use. it looks very nice and after some initial wtf's i got the hang of it.
expect it to suck up quite a few hours of your time if it's your first time to run it, but it's very good indeed! if you just want to try it without installing, you can burn/order a LiveCD and use that to boot. It won't change anything on computer, just give you a glimpse of how it looks.
i like.
